Dr. J. István Kovács theological
professor and his wife have purchased through the good offices of the Dutch in
1928 the Kvassay-estate including castle in Őrbottyán.
The castle is to be found in the
middle of a marvelous park being the home first of widows, then of orphans
until 1957 when those in need have been nursed by Christian church members.
From 1960 onwards principal profile of our home was nursing and caring persons
with mental defectives as well as gravely and cumulatively handicapped. At
present about 200 persons under care are living in our institutions.
Since 1960 our institute became
characterized by an immense development. The castle proved to be confined very
soon because of the great pretensions. In the sixties our first nursing
building was completed where at present in 7 departments 56 inhabitants
confined to bed, wounded many times are nursed while in further 3 departments
girls and wives narrow-minded and limited of motion are cared, altogether 52
persons. The department of men was built in the 1990's where 48 for the most
part mental deficient boys and young people are given treatment to. In 1999 at
Christmas our first home, while in 2003 January our second one within our
institute we could managed to convert dwelling home circumstances.
In our institute the average age has
already surpassed 30 years. Our youngest occupant is 4 years old while the
oldest one 66.
On the basis of the development and
employment schemes made according to our estimation of state everybody are
being developed according to own capabilities by the remedial teachers and
pedagogues respectively they who are obliged to be educated are going to
school. Our conductor thanks to the assistant deals with the inhabitants
limited in movement and heavily respectively many times injured putting into
practice the world-famous Pető-method.
Our inhabitants lying in bed need
full board: they are given to eat, washed and changes their nappy.
They who are able to do it, help
kindly in court work, in the kitchen, in the laundry. A number of inhabitants
take part in different occupations, as ceramic art, fire email making, weaving,
sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, drawing, paper works.
Beside the professional work of the
institute the reformed teaching and religious life has taken a stressed place.
The pastor of the rest-home as well
as its teacher of religion are doing their work in the spirit of human rights,
of the Christian mentality on the basis of the Holy Scripture and the confession
of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
